Senior Club Award 2025

This award recognises an outstanding member aged 18 and over who embodies commitment, passion, and generosity of spirit. It’s given to someone who gives back to our club, supports players and community, and reflects the values Sanctuary Lakes holds dear.

The award itself carries special meaning. In 2014, it was named in honour of our club founder, Sharon Rankin, who started Sanctuary Lakes Netball Club in 2009 with just one team. Sharon’s tireless work and dedication laid the foundations of the club we know today.

Since then, we’ve recognised a number of incredible contributors, including past recipients Taylah Hunter-Gerber, Lauren Tidmas, Tania Newcombe, Teoni Milner, Nicole Philpin, and last year’s winner, Yvonne Cristiano.

This year’s winner has made a significant impact since joining Sanctuary Lakes. Known as calm, reliable, and approachable, he has quickly become a favourite with players and parents alike. His coaching is constructive and encouraging—always lifting players up while helping them improve. One member noted: “He gives feedback without ever making players feel bad about their efforts.” Another wrote: “He has a way of engaging teenage girls—which is no small feat—and gets them to listen, learn, and enjoy the game.”

He’s the person who’s always willing to help—whether coaching, filling in for other teams, or simply being a supportive presence on the sidelines. Despite a busy family life, he continues to give his time and energy to the club, week after week.

Junior Club Award 2025

This award recognises a young person, 17 years or under, who demonstrates the values we hold at Sanctuary Lakes: sportsmanship, a positive attitude, respect for all, and a commitment to giving back through coaching, umpiring, or playing.

The winner has been part of Sanctuary Lakes since Under 9s, taking on every role possible—playing, coaching, umpiring, mentoring, and supporting others with a calm and positive approach. She has been described as dedicated, approachable, caring, and a wonderful role model—someone who truly represents the spirit of our club.

We are pleased to announce our Inaugural Team Manager of the Year – Jodie Gauci.

Jodie has managed two teams this season, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. From score sheets and scorers, to game changes and weekly organisation, she consistently keeps both teams on track.

Her reliability, organisation and commitment have made her an outstanding team manager, and we thank her for the work she has put in since her daughter first played in Under 11s.

Assistant Coach of the Year – Inaugural Award

This award recognises commitment, reliability and the contribution made to both team and club. It is about more than drills and game plans – it acknowledges consistency, leadership and the ability to support players and coaches alike.

The 2025 recipient has been a constant presence throughout the season. She has attended every training session, supported her team at games, and continued to develop her own skills as a coach.

Now in her second full season as an assistant coach, she has established herself as a reliable leader who brings structure and focus to her role. Parents describe her as confident, knowledgeable and supportive of every player in her care.

Having been part of the club since the age of seven, she now contributes to the development of the next generation of players.

We are proud to announce the first ever Assistant Coach of the Year Award goes to Ruby Rouvray.

Inaugural Coach of the Year

Sanctuary Lakes Netball Association is proud to announce our Inaugural Coach of the Year.

This award recognises more than just results on the scoreboard. It represents leadership, commitment and the positive impact a coach has on players, teams and the wider club.

The 2024 recipient has made an outstanding contribution over many years, reaching a remarkable milestone in October 2024—1,000 games coached. This achievement reflects over 15 years of dedication to Sanctuary Lakes Netball Association and the development of generations of players.

She is respected by players, parents and fellow coaches alike for her knowledge, commitment and passion for the game. She has mentored junior coaches, supported players on and off the court, and helped shape the culture of our club through her leadership and example.

Our team awards recognise the Best Team Player—an individual who consistently demonstrates outstanding team spirit and dedication. This award goes beyond performance on the court. It celebrates the player who:

  • Listens to their coach

  • Supports and encourages their teammates

  • Shows great sportsmanship

  • Is committed to training

  • Brings a positive attitude to every game and training session

Each week, votes were given at training by the coach or assistant coach, and on game day, players received votes from both the coach and the scorer.

What a Night, SLNA! 💖

What an incredible night at training last night! It's always one of the highlights on our calendar, and seeing so many players, coaches, and parents decked out in pink to support our Breast Cancer Fundraiser was fantastic.

🎉 Congratulations to Kita from the Cubs, who nailed the Lolly Jar guess with 274 (there were 275!).

🎂 Our silent cake auction was a sweet success, selling for an amazing $125—thank you Selena Young from the Diamonds for the beautiful creation.

💰 And a huge shout-out to the 13/1 Diamonds, who raised a whopping $232, earning the title of top fundraising team! Your award will be presented next week.

🌟 This year, we raised $770.00—our biggest total yet! We've notified Altona Netball Association, and they were blown away by SLNA's incredible effort. A huge thank you to everyone who supported this meaningful cause.

We'll hand over the funds on Saturday, so if any players missed last night and would still like to donate, please pass it to your team manager before then.

2024 SENIOR CLUB AWARD

Our final award tonight is our Senior Club Award In 2009 Sharon Rankin decided to start up a new club called Sanctuary Lakes Netball Club.  It was with only 1 team.

In 2010 she had a couple more teams come in with the support of the local community.  However, Sharon ran the club on her own until 2013 when she decided she needed the help of a committee as the club was getting too big with roughly 16 teams.

Along with running the club, Sharon coached 2 teams, organised uniforms, was the treasurer and the registrar for the first 3 ½ years.

In 2014 the committee decided to recognise Sharon for her commitment, dedication and the very long hours that she put into establishing our club with a trophy in her name.

In 2014 Sharon was awarded the inaugural award and in 2016 Taylah Hunter-Gerber received it.

From 2018 the committee decided to call the award the Senior Club Award which is for members 18 years and above.

The person who is receiving the award tonight has been involved with our club since 2013 (11 years). Firstly as a parent then a team manager, committee member, uniforms coordinator and treasurer.  

During her 9 years on the committee, she has been a wonderful support to all members of the club.  Always providing great thoughts and reasonings, especially when it came down to team selections and areas of development.

I am so very grateful for everything she has done for our club over many years and are very happy to announce that our 2024 Senior Club Award Recipient is:-

2024 JUNIOR CLUB AWARD

The Junior Club award is a special award given to someone aged 17 years and under, that shows sportsmanship, has a positive attitude , respects all committee members, players, coaches, umpires, officials and represents our club by coaching and or playing.

We ask our club members to send in nominations and reasons as to why they think someone should receive this award.

Once the Committee receives the nominations, we then make a decision on who our finalists are and then our winner.

Tonight, we have a new winner, although this year was very hard as our 4 finalists are all deserving of this award.

Our winner has been a member of Sanctuary Lakes since October 2017. During this time,  we have seen her grow from a shy little under 11s player into a very committed 17s under player.  

She has represented our club as a player, coach and as an umpire and has now been involved in more than 355 games for our club.

Outside of Sanctuary Lakes she has been an Altona Representative and a Wyndham Representative.  She has also been a very committed umpire for the Altona Netball Association.

Over the past few years l have witnessed her grow in confidence and is adored by the players that she coaches.  She is also very helpful around the club, always volunteering to help with training when other coaches are away. 

We are truly grateful for her commitment and dedication to Sanctuary Lakes Netball Association.

2024 10 YEAR LIFE MEMBER

To become a life member of our club you have to be involved for 10 consecutive years as a player, coach or committee member.  As one of the first to receive the life member award along with my daughter Taylah l am very excited to announce our newest member. 


Our new Life Member started playing in the 9/u competition back in 2014 and last week she played her final juniors game, representing our club in more than 276 games.  She has been a wonderful member of all the teams that she has played in and l am so happy to welcome her as a life member of the Sanctuary Lakes Netball Association.
