Committee members, Coaches and team managers are having to send multiple messages out to team members which is very time consuming and unnecessary if it is done asap. BOYS BREAK NETBALL MOULD

Move over girls – a boys netball team is calling Eagle Stadium home.

The Wyndham Netball Association has started up a boys team for teenagers still keen on the sport.

Co-coach Louise Mason Saunders said currently, boys can only play netball with a girls team up until under 13s level. After that they can no longer play in a mixed setting.

When Ms Mason Saunders’ 14-year-old son Foster reached the end of his run earlier this year, her and husband Alf decided to try and start a boys team.

Each Saturday morning the team has been playing against any girls under 15 team that was having a bye.

“It’s [a boys netball team] quite a hard thing to get up and running, but we’ve persevered this year,” Ms Mason Saunders said.

“Even when we’ve only had three players available, we’ve filled the gaps with some girls so that the boys that want to play, can play.

“Slowly, over the year, the team’s grown and we’ve now got seven to eight boys that are there most of the time.

“There’s an Australian men’s team, a Victorian men’s team … at a men’s level, it’s got quite a lot of people in it, but at a boys level, not so much.”

Among the teams members is 13-year-old Connor Lilly, who attends Maribyrnong College to focus on his netball game.

Last week, Connor and Foster were both named in the Victorian under 17 development team, and will play in a tournament on the Gold Coast next year.

MONDAY NIGHT NETBALL UPDATE

Thank-you for everyone who expressed an interest in Monday night netball. We now have three 15U teams and one 21U team to enter for next season. These players will have received an email today with details of how to pay their deposit to hold their spot. This is being done through the MyNetball system.

If anyone else is interested and hasn't contacted us, please email headcoach@sanctuarylakesnetball.com and we will place you on a waiting list. If we get enough to form extra teams we will look at this.

9 & UNDER TEAMS - 2 SPOTS AVAILABLE

We have a 2 of spots available for our 9 & under teams.

Our 2 teams play at Eagle Stadium on a Saturday morning.

At Wyndham they are very lucky to be playing Modified netball (size 4 netball and shorter posts). This will really help with player development and is part of Netball Victoria's program for this age group.

If you know of someone wanting to play please get them to email
registrations@sanctuarylakesnetball.com
asap.

Thank you

ANNOUNCEMENT RE 9U COMPETITION

The committee would like to make all club members aware of changes to the 9U competition. Altona Netball were only able to offer our 9U teams a game every 2nd week due to lack of court space. Unfortunately, we were only advised of this when the fixtures came out for Round 1.

After consultation with our 9U coaches and families we have decided to move our 9U teams to the Wyndham Netball Association competition commencing this week. This will now give us four teams playing Saturday morning netball at Wyndham. As well as our 9U teams being able to play every week, they will benefit from the modified 9U rules that Wyndham uses which includes lower goal rings and Size 4 netballs. It will be our policy from now on to register all 9U teams at Wyndham rather than at Altona.

The committee is grateful to the Wyndham Netball Association for accommodating our teams at such short notice. We also appreciate the support from the 9U coaches and families.
